Maintaining Position Classifications

You can maintain position class information, which can span multiple states, using the Position Classifications form.

To maintain position class information, do the following:

1. Click the Back Office menu and select Position Classifications from the System|Change menu.
2. Complete the following fields:

Field Description
Position Classification Enter or select a unique Position Classification ID.
Description Description of the position classification. For example, the job title.

EEO Position Group

Enter or select the appropriate group. PrismHR automatically displays the EEO Position Class based on the EEO position group entered.

Special Requirements

Select this option to indicate that this position classification involves special physical or mental requirements; the position must be closely monitored for ADA compliance when applications are accepted for any positions with this classification.

The Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA) prohibits employers from discriminating against qualified individuals with disabilities. Not including a particular person in the applicant pool for a certain job is nondiscriminatory only if that person does not meet any physical or mental requirements that have been identified as a essential functions of the position.

FLSA Exempt

Select this option to exempt this position from the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act, which defines the workers who must be paid for overtime.

FLSA Type

Select the type that best describes this FLSA exempt position. If the position classification is not FLSA exempt, do not select an FLSA type.

Standard Duties Test: The position satisfies standard duties test, or is exempt from duties test but still subject to standard salary test.
Exempt Executive Duties: The position satisfies the highly compensated duties test only.
Exempt Professional Duties: The position is exempt from the duties and salary tests (such as teachers, doctors, and lawyers).

State

For each state:

Enter or select the state abbreviation. The system ties a state-specific workers' compensation class to this position when it is performed by employees who work at a location within that state.
Enter or select the W/C Class Code applicable to the state for this position classification. The W/C Class Description displays.

3. Click Save.
